Injection Moulding

Capability

Ludowici Plastics Ltd. has been injection-moulding plastics for industrial applications for over a quarter of a century. Initially, the company focused on developing an extensive range of finished products and nylon components, most of which are now supplied ex-stock.

They then diversified and developed expertise in the field of custom injection moulding and toolmaking, servicing a wide variety of industries in both the domestic and international manufacturing fields.

Today, Ludowici Plastics moulding division sets the benchmark for industry standards, based on a high level of efficiency and continuous innovation.

Service

Customer service is an all-important facet in Ludowici Plastics company philosophy. Both technical and sales personnel take an active role in assessing individual requirements for specific applications, and offering soundly-based recommendations and solutions.

They are constantly in contact with a broad spectrum of industry, who use many different plastics over a wide variety of applications, and they take pride in their problem-solving ability.

The company offers a complete design and project management facility, which encompasses machine shop production of prototypes for new projects through to basic injection-moulded components. Rapid prototyping is co-ordinated using systems such as Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM).

The company will also source additional non-moulded elements, which can be fitted to specified components to provide a complete finished product.

The ability to produce low-volume injection-moulded components on very short lead times demonstrates the importance that Ludowici Plastics Ltd. places on customer service and satisfaction.

Quality

The company has in-house quality control systems in place, which ensure a commitment to manufacture injection-moulded finished products of consistent dimension and formulation. These quality control systems extend to machine shops in Christchurch and Auckland, where Ludowici Plastics engineers use a variety of machine tools to manufacture components for specific applications. The company also actively pursues a policy of continuous improvement, which covers every aspect of its business dealings and product development.

Materials

Ludowici Plastics Ltd. has the capability to mould an extremely wide range of engineering plastics. They include complex formulations which are blended in-house by company industrial chemists, through to the more traditional moulding resins.

Each material is supported by full technical back-up from Ludowici Plastics Ltd., either in-house or through our overseas principals. Materials used for injection-moulding include:-Nylon-6, filled nylons, acetal, polypropylene, flexible PVC, styrenes, rynite, polyethylenes, thermoplastic rubbers (TPR), thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), santoprene, reflex, hytrel, polycarbonates, liquid crystal polymers (LCP), acrylics, polyester elastomers and UHMWPE.

Other high performance materials which may be required for specific applications are sourced from either local or international suppliers.

Toolmaking

Ludowici Plastics Ltd. places major emphasis on its toolmaking service, and technical personnel will explore every avenue to minimise tooling costs. Their expertise allows them to asssess the viability of each customer’s requirements and then make recommendations for the most effective solution.

The company utilises both in-house and external toolmaking facilities to increase productivity and provide a tooling service that is efficient, accurate and cost-effective for each application.

Design

Where product shape and tooling is more complicated, the design team uses SolidWorks, a three-dimensional modelling programme, to output engineering and injection mould designs with complex and intricate views.

SolidWorks allows company engineers to evaluate the mechanical functionality of moulds, tools and components prior to production, and make modifications where necessary. The information gained enables accurate tooling and product development to be carried out more quickly and efficiently.
